Chapter 805: One Jackpot
Chapter 805: One Jackpot
Even if Ahmin had trained with Tang Ziyi and her members, despite her experience, she still fell short in speed, causing a tiny but dangerous delay.
Nonetheless, the latter's aggression made up for such mistakes, completely overwhelming the enemies. No need for flashbangs or explosives.
The two separated and entered the interior, scanning for threats, followed by their girls. Several men sat on the floor, wearing both civilian and military attire. Guns rested in their hands but weren't ready.
The former belonged to ISIS. The latter belonged to the government force representatives. These clearly weren't high officials but middle-ranking figures exchanging information at the moment.
Athena's data reckoned there were no innocents in this compound. If there were any, only families whose property had been requisitioned by force. Even the nearby compounds weren't spared.
So, the rules of engagement were less restrictive. Apart from women, who were clearly out of bounds because of culture and tradition—not that exceptions were impossible—every person was a target.
The men barely managed a shout before Tang Ziyi started firing at their heads.
Puff! Puff!
Her group, particularly Spirit Fox, obliged and followed suit. They weren't interested in human intelligence.
Thud. Thud. Clang. Clang.
Bodies fell motionless, knocking over utensils and shattering a few teacups. Tang Ziyi started moving, stepping over the corpses. She heard a few extra shots behind as she took point again.
Obviously, those were dead checks. "Control."
Ahmin went in another direction and sliced the pie slowly. The modernized AK in her hands projected laser beams wherever she pointed from her night vision perspective.
She had already seen one side of the corner from the exterior. A corner-fed room. She snapped in with half a foot. "Short room. Clear!"
The GSS operator behind her nodded and headed for another closed door. She kicked it open, and Ahmin heard an ouch. Tilting her head to glance from behind, Ahmin witnessed the operator fire two shots and move in. As her closest partner, Ahmin backed her up.
She hadn't even had the time to squeeze a signal. This one trusted her too much. Anyway, the point person was always correct. Every dictate and movement of theirs was law in CQB.
Ahmin shuffled away the pistol near the dead man's hand and understood what had occurred.
The man had heard the commotion, taken out his pistol, and prepared himself to defend, only to be suppressed by the kicked door and killed.
Although Ahmin had seen it during the prior training preparations, the GSS operatives were too fast and too ruthless. She didn't know the Spirit Fox operators had deliberately reduced their pace to coordinate better.
Otherwise, the operators would have sprinted and burst in, puffing everyone into splattered watermelons before the enemies could react in the early minutes. Unlike now, where someone had already prepared to use their sidearm.
During the operation to eliminate the Tiger Gang Head, the enemies had been too stunned to show any signs of resistance. Now, enough time had passed. Given their training routines and long hours with the ample support of Ling Qingyu and Athena, their skills had become even more refined.
Besides, moving too fast without processing information was detrimental to their allied teammates. Tonight's operation wasn't theirs alone. The pace had to be controlled.
Ahmin took the lead again and stacked by the door, checking the frame—outward swinging. Opposite her, two teammates positioned themselves, nodding their muzzles to signal readiness. They weren't GSS. They were her subordinates.
Then, she felt a strong squeeze on her arm, tucked the rifle under her shoulder, and immediately swung the door outward.
Two of her subordinates entered. She was the third. The response from the room was a chorus of screams. Women were grouped inside.
Whether they had been taken away by force or were confidantes of the men here was unknown. Maybe they were part of the house owner's family. Nobody knew.
She ordered her subordinates to investigate and control the female group. These variables could become disastrous if left unchecked.
Her subordinates searched the women's bodies. Outcries and protests erupted until they heard the female voices of the searchers. Resistance and reluctance still existed, but it was much better.
Ahmin had completely cleared her area of responsibility and regrouped with Tang Ziyi, who was waiting halfway up the stairs, already covering the third floor. They proceeded to the second floor but waited for more personnel.
The backyard team had locked down the perimeter and taken over the security role from the frontal team. The rooftop team provided 360-degree overwatch while clearing the third floor.
Top and bottom would intersect together, leaving no living space for the targets.
Frankly, not much time had passed. Perhaps barely more than a minute, yet they had already secured a complete foothold.
On the way, Ahmin discovered a cable connection to the generator and disconnected it. The entire compound darkened and camouflaged with the surroundings.
Yes, only this building and a few nearby ones, plus scattered lights in the distance, still had electricity. The war in the past had destroyed everything, and recovery would take many years.
In fact, the lighting consisted of only a few large lamps, not modernized systems. It was even inferior to her makeshift base after the improvements brought by GSS.
"Have you found our targets?" Ahmin asked Tang Ziyi.
"Negative. Rooftop teams also reported no findings."
"Are you sure they are here?" Ahmin asked with some hesitation.
After all, most intelligence work came from GSS. Even if she had connections to human assets, the bulk of the information didn't come from her side.
So far, the two HVTs—high-value targets—of tonight's operation remained unseen. The top and bottom floors contained no targets. Only the second floor remained.
Three minutes had passed now. The group began clearing the second floor. Downstairs, the backyard team was searching thoroughly in case secret rooms existed.
But with their lightning strike, the chances of escapees—if such rooms existed—were extremely low.
As the groups cleared the floor, the background cacophony of blasts played a symphony to their CQB dance.
Explosions from mini-rockets launched by the Virgin 2s. Brrr. Brrr.
The chained roars of helicopter miniguns, along with explosive rounds, shredded any enemies that might pose a threat to the ground troops.
The relentless air cover pounded the area so heavily that dust occasionally shook loose from the ceiling, raining over the operators.
Some muffled yet loud gunshots rang out above and across the second floor. Threats were eliminated, especially military-aged males other than the HVTs.
Just then, over the radio channel, the rooftop team shouted: "Jackpot. Hotel Zulu. I say again. Hotel Zulu. We've got him."
Ahmin heaved a sigh of relief knowing the intelligence was correct. When she glanced at Tang Ziyi, the latter remained impassive.
How could she understand the level of trust Tang Ziyi and Spirit Fox had in Athena after multiple experiences? Data rarely lied.
The second floor team regrouped as they had cleared furthest possible routes in every direction. One only remained. Tang Ziyi had no idea what the architect had in minds to only have one large stairwell while the interior spacing was huge.
Based on Athena's satellite detailed scanning, the compound blueprint was thoroughly studied by everyone. No signs of secret rooms but sometimes human intervention gave a sense of ritual and additional layer of assurance.
A/N: Great thanks to my fan, SunnySphinxc for informing me quickly before the damage is higher.
