Chapter 47 For Nord
Chapter 47 For Nord
Kane reacted extremely quickly, almost instinctively lowering his body.
A crossbow bolt whizzed past his ear.
Immediately behind him came the muffled thud of an arrow striking armor, followed by a suppressed groan of pain.
Arrows came flying in one after another.
Kane desperately swung his scimitar to parry in the darkness, the clanging sounds echoing throughout the room.
He even had to instantly use his blood acceleration ability to barely deflect the arrows aimed at him.
However, the situation behind him is far from optimistic.
Even a first-tier professional would find it difficult to completely defend themselves against a barrage of crossbow bolts fired in the darkness if they suddenly went blind.
The clanging of crossbow bolts striking metal armor echoed continuously in the air.
But more often, it was the dull thud of arrows piercing flesh.
After several rounds of rapid firing, Kane clearly heard at least three heavy bodies fall to the ground in succession.
After several volleys of arrows, the attack temporarily ceased.
Kane's eyes gradually adjusted to the darkness, and he could barely make out the outlines of objects further away.
Suddenly, a sharp, intense pain shot through his outer thigh!
He looked down and saw a short, dark green goblin that had silently approached him without him noticing.
The goblin plunged a rusty dagger into his leg, a cruel and sinister smile on his face.
Kane did not hesitate and brought down the knife.
The scimitar flashed with a cold light, severing the goblin's neck.
As the head rolled off, Kane immediately activated his immortality trait.
The muscle tissue rapidly heals under the skin, leaving only a shallow wound on the epidermis as a cover.
He quickly turned to look at the group, and his heart sank.
The narrow passage was littered with arrows, and the original ten-man team had been reduced to nearly half its original size.
The remaining men were all wounded by arrows to varying degrees, and their formation was scattered.
What's more troublesome is that from the two forks in the road, swarms of goblins, numbering in the hundreds, surge out like a tide.
Some of them were holding crossbows that had already been fired or were about to be reloaded.
On open plains, these frail little monsters would be slaughtered in one fell swoop by a professional scout team.
But in this cramped underground passage, their small size actually becomes an advantage.
Alvin let out a low growl and swung his sword, severing the arrow shaft that was still stuck in his left arm.
He then raised his two-handed sword high and let out a deafening roar:
"For Nord!"
The roar seemed to have a magical power, instantly bringing the remaining panicked scouts back to their senses.
Despite the excruciating pain from their wounds and the dizziness from blood loss, they immediately raised their shields and swung their swords.
Follow Alvin and launch a desperate charge toward the fork in the road on the left where there are fewer goblins.
The professional's counterattack was incredibly sharp.
In the flash of sword light, the goblins who had just gained the upper hand by sneaking up were instantly cut down, with most of them killed.
The surviving goblins screamed in terror, their faces filled with fear, and scattered in all directions.
Kane followed closely on the flank of the team.
As he charged, he swung his sword and took down several goblins that rushed towards him in their panic.
The team was about to carve a bloody path through the goblin horde.
A heavy, muffled thud suddenly came from the bend in the passage ahead!
An exceptionally tall and imposing figure, covered entirely in heavy metal armor, blocked the way like an iron tower.
It holds a massive tower shield in one hand and wields a heavy one-handed warhammer in the other.
It was a bear goblin, and a bear goblin that had been deliberately armed!
The soldier at the very front of the column turned deathly pale instantly.
The next moment, the heavily armored bear goblin roared and swung his two-handed hammer!
boom!
The scout, shield and all, was smashed away.
His body slammed heavily against the stone wall like a rag doll, making a sickeningly loud cracking sound.
He opened his mouth and spat out blood mixed with fragments of internal organs, dying instantly.
The team suffered another loss.
The vast difference in innate power between races makes it difficult for human warriors of the same rank to confront this monster head-on.
Kane's pupils contracted as he sensed a fierce gust of wind approaching from above.
The goblin's one-handed hammer, accompanied by a whooshing sound, was about to smash down on his head!
With a swift thought, the blood in his arm veins instantly accelerated, his strength surged, and he swung his scimitar upwards to block!
"clang--!!!!"
The scimitar clashed violently with the heavy one-handed hammer, producing a deafening metallic clang and even sending sparks flying.
The loud noise echoed through the enclosed passage, and several soldiers nearby couldn't help but frown, their faces showing pain.
Kane quickly took a few steps back, skillfully dissipating the enormous impact.
The goblin seemed to pause for a moment, a hint of disbelief flashing in its scarlet eyes.
Clearly, they hadn't expected this seemingly ordinary human to be able to withstand their attack head-on.
After a moment's hesitation.
It angrily raised its warhammer again and brought it down with an even stronger whoosh.
But the next moment, Alvin rushed over like a whirlwind!
His entire body surged with fighting spirit, and he swung his greatswords in both hands, creating a deadly whirlwind of blades!
"Whirlwind Slash!"
As the sword wind swept past, the remaining goblin corpses nearby were instantly shredded into bloody, mangled pieces.
Alvin's two-handed greatsword clashed violently with the goblin's one-handed hammer once again!
In the instant of the handover, Alvin deftly twisted his wrist, using exquisite combat skills to pull the hammerhead to one side.
At the same time, the two greatswords, using the force of the rotation, slashed hard at the junction of the bear goblin's neck and helmet!
The blade was deeply embedded, almost severing half of the bear goblin's thick neck!
Dark black blood spurted out.
"Damn monsters! Human combat skills are beyond the comprehension of you fools!"
Alvin's face showed a ferocious and exhausted smile, with a trace of blood still hanging from the corner of his mouth.
Kane, however, keenly sensed something amiss.
He hurriedly shouted, "Back off!"
Alvin was taken aback. "What?"
In the blink of an eye.
The bear goblin with its neck cut in half suddenly started moving!
Its arms, clad in iron gloves, unleashed their last strength, gripping Alvin's waist like iron clamps and pulling him tightly into their embrace!
Caught off guard, Alvin felt a terrifying force pressing down on him from all directions, and for a moment he was unable to break free.
He could only grit his teeth and struggle to pry open the bear goblin's steel-like arms, slowly pushing it away.
Upon seeing this, the other soldiers, recovering from their brief shock, shouted in unison:
"Rescue the captain!"
He then rushed over without regard for anything else.
Just then, from the depths of darkness, that chilling chanting sounded once more:
"Fire Arrow!"
Kane's heart skipped a beat: "This is bad!"
However, this time, the scorching flaming arrows did not strike anyone.
It drew an arc and accurately struck several corpses soaked in "black blood" on the floor of the passage!
boom--!
In an instant, raging flames suddenly rose up like ignited kerosene.
The flames spread rapidly along the winding "bloodstains" on the ground, instantly turning most of the passage into a sea of fire!
Kane instantly understood:
What was seeping from the corpses on the ground was not black blood at all, but highly flammable fuel!
"Scatter!"
He shouted.
The flames grew stronger with the help of the fuel, and the tongues of fire licked wildly at the top and walls of the passage.
Many soldiers, whose bodies and armor were already stained with the "black blood," were instantly ignited, turning them into human torches.
They let out piercing screams and frantically tried to extinguish the flames on their bodies.
The remaining goblins were terrified by the sudden fire, screaming and running around in all directions, which only exacerbated the chaos.
"Cloud and Mist Technique!"
Kane watched the scout squad struggling in the flames and, without hesitation, immediately began to chant a spell in a low voice.
In the dark and damp underground passage, abundant moisture quickly responded to his call, condensing into a thick white fog.
The moment the mist began to spread, Kane immediately followed up with his water manipulation technique.
His senses expanded instantly with the moisture, allowing him to clearly "see":
About nine meters behind the bear goblin, a human-shaped figure stood silently.
Two dog-shaped shadows seemed to be following beside him.
"Is it that necromancer?"
But he had no time to think about it at the moment. He immediately manipulated the spreading water vapor to precisely cover the bodies of each soldier whose body was on fire.
Water vapor forms a moist film that isolates the air and rapidly lowers the temperature.
With the loss of air to fuel combustion and the sudden drop in temperature, the flames on the soldiers' bodies were quickly extinguished.
All that remained were charred armor and skin, and painful groans.
In that instant, Alvin suddenly erupted, letting out a roar as he broke free from his restraints.
He then swung his greatsword backhand and slashed it hard at the back of the bear goblin's leg!
The towering bear goblin corpse finally lost its support and collapsed to the ground with a thud.
The heavy armor struck the ground with a dull thud.
In Kane's perception.
The figure at the end of the darkness watched this side silently for a moment, then slowly retreated.
They vanished silently into the deeper darkness.
