Chapter 6, Bringing It into the Snake's Den
Chapter 6, Bringing It into the Snake's Den
The monkey hurriedly threw away the mutton it hadn't finished eating, pounded its chest, stamped its feet, and bared its teeth, howling wildly. Clearly, it understood what Li Lang had said.
This guy looks like he has thick eyebrows and big eyes, but he does really bad things! Monkeys aren't delicious at all. They're bland and salty, they don't even taste as good as a pile of poop. Go eat poop!
The monkey cursed inwardly, waving its hands wildly and roaring. Anyone could see that the monkey was on the verge of losing control and could jump forward at any moment to scratch someone's face.
Upon seeing this, Li Lang's eyes lit up, and his face showed anticipation. "Little Holy Son, do you mean that you've already made a discovery?"
The monkey froze, staring at Li Lang with disbelief. Was that what it had just done and the emotions it had expressed?
"Alright, alright, I knew I couldn't let you go to waste this past year! You really are a grateful person." Li Lang rubbed his hands together excitedly, then turned to look at Wangcai, who was wolfing down his food, and said irritably, "All you do is eat! What kind of behavior is this? Look at that little holy son, he doesn't forget the barbecue person even while eating meat. We've finally found a way out! I'll take you out into the world for a spin. Come on!"
Li Lang raised the sharpened wooden stick and pointed it at the monkey, his kingly aura brooking no argument. "Lead the way!"
The monkey's head was buzzing. It looked at Li Lang's wickedly grinning face and then at the sharp stick in his hand. It knew that this matter could not be resolved peacefully. If it dared to show even the slightest hesitation, it would probably not get through the day.
Without hesitation, the monkey turned and left. Its determined posture stirred something in Li Lang's heart; it seemed to have some skill. Otherwise, would the monkey dare to take such a ruthless step?
The monkey walked with firm steps, but its eyes darted around. It seemed that things would have to get serious today.
And so, the monkey, the man, and Wangcai walked methodically into the depths of the mountains and forests.
Strangely, the forest was unusually quiet today. The usually noisy animals seemed to sense that this group of three was unusual, and they all huddled in the shadows, waiting to watch the show.
The atmosphere is getting a bit awkward. I'm leaving now and won't bother you anymore, so shouldn't we all give me a proper send-off?
It has to be said that Li Lang has not left this mountain forest for the past year. He has hunted every kind of animal in the mountain, big and small, and has been having barbecues every day. He is so tired of it.
Of course, sometimes he really wanted to cook some soup, but unfortunately he didn't have a pot, so the conditions didn't allow it, and it really wasn't his fault.
Li Lang was deep in thought when suddenly there was movement ahead.
A gray rabbit suddenly appeared out of nowhere and pounced at the monkey's feet in a panic. The monkey, whose face was full of worry, suddenly brightened up, grabbed the rabbit, and then hissed at it fiercely.
The poor gray rabbit landed in the monkey's hands. At first, it was terrified and kicked its limbs wildly, but after a while it calmed down and responded with "squeaks".
Is this a conversation?
Li Lang's eyes widened as he suddenly realized something. Throughout the year, he hadn't been able to leave the mountains and forests. Perhaps the forests were too vast and lacked paths, making it understandable that he couldn't find his way out.
The primeval forests of my past life were not like this.
What I can't understand is that all the animals in these mountains seem to have an inexplicable and mysterious quality. I hadn't noticed it before, but now I have—it's spirituality.
No wonder Wangcai and Xiaoshengzi seemed to understand my human speech; it turns out they can communicate with each other.
Thinking of this, Li Lang trembled with shock. This place is no ordinary place!
Just as Li Lang was still reeling from his shock, the monkey and the rabbit seemed to have finished their exchange. The monkey released its grip, and the rabbit fell to the ground. Then, without looking back, the monkey darted into the depths of the forest.
The monkey grinned, not daring to be careless, and crouched down on all fours, leaping and chasing after the rabbit.
Seeing this, Li Lang quickly took off after them. If the monkey who had led the way got away, wouldn't he become a laughingstock?
And so, the chase through the woods began.
A snake hadn't eaten for several days when it encountered a gray rabbit. It was determined to chase after the rabbit and devour it, but the rabbit was very clever and disappeared in a flash.
The flower snake was quite annoyed. After wandering around for a long time without finding it, just as it was sighing and about to give up, a gray shadow flashed before its eyes, and the gray rabbit darted back.
It was like a gray rabbit falling from the sky! The flower snake raised its flat head, about to happily flick its tongue, when suddenly its body stiffened, its flower head fell to the ground with a "whoosh," and with a flick of its tail, it twisted away as if fleeing for its life.
The snake was fast, but Li Lang had sharp eyes. Seeing its constantly wriggling tail, Li Lang had a premonition that the snake was also intelligent. Did it recognize him? Or did it know that it had beaten its ancestor?
Li Lang's guess was absolutely right. A year ago in the valley, the white wolf and the green python fought and both died. Li Lang buried the white wolf, but roasted and ate the green python clean. The taste was truly disgusting; just thinking about it made him burp with the stench of snakes.
Sure enough, a year has passed, and no snakes have dared to appear in the vicinity of Li Lang's surroundings.
With the snake appearing, the rabbit's mission was complete. The rabbit darted away and disappeared into the depths of the forest. The monkey, unperturbed, continued its relentless pursuit of the snake.
The flower snake was truly fleeing for its life. Its own ancestor had been eaten by those two-legged creatures, and the young ancestor had already informed the entire clan that if they encountered those two-legged creatures, they should run as far away as possible.
If even Xiao Zu was afraid of something, how could I not be afraid? So the flower snake had no psychological burden when it fled for its life.
The flower snake is somewhat intelligent, but it still couldn't fully understand what its little ancestor meant.
"Run as far as you can" means to run far away, and definitely not to come back to your own backyard.
The view suddenly opened up at the end of the woods; it was still a valley, but it was ridiculously large.
Even more outrageous, there was an endless swarm of snakes swimming around. We'd reached a snake den.
Li Lang emerged from the woods and looked up to see this scene. He felt a chill run down his spine and wished he could throw the monkey that had led the way over there to test its power.
Li Lang was flustered, but not afraid. After a year of experience in the mountains, the word "fear" had completely disappeared from his vocabulary.
But the monkey was genuinely terrified; the sight of snakes everywhere was something it couldn't even imagine in its dreams!
The monkey immediately lost its footing, its eyes filled with uncontrollable fear, its body trembling uncontrollably, as if it were about to die at any moment.
