Chapter 390: Rule
Chapter 390: Rule
"Li Wei."
Eiris waved and called out loudly.
Hearing her, Li Wei turned around.
Eiris shouted, "Hurry up! The exchange tournament is about to start, and we still need to get to the arena."
"Oh, okay, I got it," Li Wei replied.
He glanced at Erica, then gestured toward Eiris not far away. "I have to go compete. See you later."
Erica smiled. "Maybe we’ll run into each other. If we do, you’ll have to show me what you’re capable of."
"If I get the chance, I wouldn’t mind,"
Li Wei said with a chuckle before turning to leave.
Walking over to Eiris, she glanced at Erica’s departing figure and asked curiously, "Who was that? Do you know her?"
Li Wei shook his head. "Not really. Just a Biological Alchemist I met."
"A Biological Alchemist?" Eiris seemed a bit surprised, too.
It seemed she didn’t know much about that profession.
"In that case, she must be representing the Alchemy Tower in the exchange tournament," Eiris guessed.
Li Wei nodded. "Most likely."
"Come on, let’s get to the arena."
Li Wei and Eiris headed toward the arena.
The competition was being held in an independent Secret Realm Space.
It was a large-scale spatial Secret Realm specially prepared by the Space Tower for this grand event.
Li Wei asked, "What’s the format of the competition? A free-for-all, a survival match, or an arena tournament?"
Eiris said, "All of them."
"All of them?" Li Wei looked puzzled.
Eiris explained with a smile, "This time, the competition is set on an island that the Space Tower has cordoned off in the Endless Sea. The island is teeming with Ancient Fierce Beasts and full of danger, which will also test the participants’ survival skills."
"As for how victory is decided, there are twenty-five independent spatial arenas on the island. Participants have to find an arena and occupy it until the end of the competition. The final rankings will be calculated based on the number of arenas each Mage Tower holds."
"Only two people are allowed to fight in a spatial arena at a time, and each battle can last for a maximum of one hour."
"The loser is barred from re-entering the same spatial arena for twelve hours."
Upon hearing this, Li Wei chuckled. "Heh, that’s actually pretty interesting."
Eiris nodded. "It is. It’s much more interesting than the simple arena battles of previous years."
"The ones who make a big splash at the beginning won’t necessarily win in the end. It’s going to take some strategy and tactics to secure victory."
Li Wei said, "In that case, wouldn’t everyone be unwilling to be the first to occupy an arena?"
"Couldn’t you just go on the last day, or even at the last moment?" Li Wei was a bit confused.
Eiris said, "Not exactly. There’s another Rule. After you occupy an arena and become a Defender, you earn Points based on how long you hold it. These Points can be used to unlock special effects and Magic Items."
"Oh, there’s a Rule like that?" Li Wei was surprised.
"If that’s the case, the fight for the arenas will probably be far more intense than I imagined."
"It mainly depends on how powerful the special effects and Magic Items offered by the Space Tower are."
Li Wei commented as they walked.
Eiris said, "Based on the experience from past exchange tournaments, any items that appear during the competition will definitely have a decisive impact on the outcome."
Li Wei nodded and asked, "So what’s our plan?"
He glanced around. "Should we discuss tactics with everyone first?"
Eiris shook her head. "If you and I step up, no one will likely listen to us. We need some of the more prestigious students to take the lead."
"You and I shouldn’t worry about it too much. Let’s just focus on doing our own part."
"Mm, I understand," Li Wei nodded.
After learning the Rules, everyone realized that the competition couldn’t be won by individual strength alone.
After some discussion, the group eventually chose Elfa to be their temporary commander.
Elfa’s strength was recognized by everyone, and he was also a member of a prestigious noble family in the Empire.
Most people were willing to follow his lead.
Elfa stood on a rock and casually tossed out a small Fireball.
BOOM!
The explosion caught everyone’s attention.
Elfa said, "Everyone, gather around. Let’s discuss our strategy."
"There are twenty-five arenas in the Secret Realm, which means each Mage Tower needs to hold at least five of them just to break even."
"Therefore, we’ll first split into six teams."
"Five teams will go and capture unoccupied arenas. They’ll defend them to earn as many Points as possible and exchange them for crucial competition items."
"The remaining team, which I will lead, will attack the arenas held by other Mage Towers. Even if we can’t capture the arenas, we need to disrupt their rhythm and prevent them from holding onto them peacefully for too long."
Someone raised their hand and said, "If we split into six squads, won’t the teams be too small?"
"Yeah, there are only thirteen members from the Purple Level Class participating in the exchange tournament this time. If we split into six squads, each squad will have just two people."
Elfa replied calmly, "Don’t worry. The other Mage Towers have a similar number of participants. The Summoning Tower has the most, with sixteen people."
"In terms of numbers, the Elemental Tower isn’t at a disadvantage. The Illusion Spirit Tower has even fewer participants; they only have eight."
"According to the information I have, the Space Tower has ten participants, and the Alchemy Tower has fifteen."
"The Elemental Tower’s numbers are neither high nor low, right in the middle."
"A two-person team is enough."
Hearing that the other Mage Towers didn’t have many participants either, the group had no more questions.
Li Wei and Eiris glanced at each other. Li Wei asked, "Shall we team up?"
Eiris nodded. "Sure."
Before long, the Mages who knew each other had formed their own squads.
Li Wei looked to the side.
The Mages from the other Mage Towers were already in place.
Each Mage Tower had a different style of dress.
The Elemental Tower Mages mainly wore Mage Robes in elemental colors.
The Space Tower Mages wore silver Mage Robes.
The Summoning Tower Mages wore Mage Robes in natural colors.
The Alchemy Tower Mages wore gold or white Mage Robes.
The Mage Robes of the Illusion Spirit Tower Mages were the most peculiar; their colors were constantly shifting, giving them a dreamlike, illusory quality.
Staring at them for too long could even make one feel a bit dizzy.
The color of their Mage Robes had become a form of attack in itself.
"Hello, everyone. Welcome to the Space Tower for this year’s exchange tournament..."
Li Wei heard a voice and turned to look.
The supervising leaders from the five top Mage Towers had appeared on a high platform.
An Elder from the Space Tower was speaking.
The Space Tower was hosting this event, so their Elder stood in the very center, acting as the main person in charge.
"Alright, enough with the pleasantries. Please enter the competition grounds."
"The Rules of the competition will be announced to you after you have entered the arena."
SHRRRIP!
The space before them tore open. After a moment, it stabilized into a slowly rotating vortex.
This was the entrance.
Everyone entered in an orderly fashion.
