Chapter 516: [Crimson Inheritance] (35)
The sharp gusts created by the boss almost immediately woke everyone who was still in the room.Nick had never dared to rest even for a moment, while Jax and Daniel were awakened in an entirely different way.
A sudden, intense pain erupted in their abdomens as that bizarre creature slithered through the hallway.
Daniel looked at the skin over his stomach, now frighteningly thin. He didn’t even need to touch it to clearly feel the movements beneath. There really was something there, something...
However, whatever dangers lurked on the second floor no longer had anything to do with Silvanus and Elya.
Elya glanced at Silvanus. After being reminded by him, she could barely maintain her usual faint smile.
Thinking back to what had just happened, her desire to kill Silvanus grew stronger and stronger.
She failed to notice that the dense darkness was almost swallowing them whole. Completely different from the moonlit second floor, the third floor was so dark that one could not see their own fingers. They were almost entirely cut off from the second floor, as though the two levels existed in completely separate spaces.
Pretending not to notice Elya’s unusual behavior, Silvanus cautiously moved forward and said softly, "Let’s keep going. We don’t have any other choice."
After a brief pause, he added, "If you’re too afraid, you can leave, Elya..."
"Are you looking down on me, Silvanus?" Elya frowned.
Silvanus couldn’t help but pause for a moment. "That’s not what I meant..." Besides, was this really the time to be talking about something like this?
In the darkness, their figures quickly became indistinct, like wandering spirits. Elya noticed the change as well. She knew this was her opportunity.
She didn’t understand why she kept avoiding a direct confrontation with Silvanus, but her instincts seemed to be warning her against it. No matter how foolish she might be, she could tell that Silvanus’s swift reaction earlier was not something an ordinary person could possess. Perhaps Silvanus wasn’t a normal NPC after all.
Thud!
A sound like fresh flesh being pierced echoed through the darkness. In this space, that faint noise was startlingly clear.
Elya curled her lips into a smile and whispered softly, "Silvanus, I didn’t want to kill you either, but thank you for your sacrifice."
After speaking, Elya prepared to withdraw her hand, certain that she had already crushed Silvanus’s heart.
But the smile on her lips vanished instantly when she realized that her hand seemed to be stuck.
It was as though an immense pressure existed within that body, like a bottomless swamp forcefully dragging her inward.
Only then did she realize that the sensation on her hand felt exactly like being wrapped in a mass of warm, soft flesh, completely devoid of bones.
"What the hell..." Elya cried out. Her body jerked backward repeatedly, exerting so much force that her arm nearly emitted the sound of cracking bones, as if the joints were about to be torn apart.
Cold sweat broke out across Elya’s body from the pain.
Sploop~
A sound like something falling into a sticky swamp echoed through the darkness. The thing seemed to contract slightly, and in the next moment, Elya’s entire arm—even half of her shoulder—was engulfed by that strange, warm flesh!
"No way! Get off me! Get off me!"
At this point, Elya’s face held more than just pain. Her eyes widened as panic overtook her, and she struggled frantically. One hand instinctively reached out, hoping to use something as leverage to push herself away.
But she quickly realized it was the stupidest decision she could have made in her life. The moment her other hand touched the bizarre creature, it was immediately swallowed as well.
"No! No!"
Elya no longer cared about staying quiet or anything else. She curled up and thrashed like a shrimp, but it was useless—completely useless.
She wasn’t given much time to struggle. Before she could waste any more effort, her entire body was swallowed whole. Within the darkness, only the lingering echo of a scream remained, cut off before it could fully escape.
As for Silvanus, who had continued moving forward without pause, he seemed to sense something.
He suddenly stopped and turned around at the same time.
There was nothing but darkness.
Ahead of him, behind him, in every direction, as far as his eyes could reach, there was only a suffocatingly dense darkness.
Elya had vanished long ago, and by his estimation, he had already spent about five minutes walking forward like a headless fly.
But this stretch of space seemed almost endless. Even the sound of his footsteps and breathing appeared forbidden from existing.
[I’m about to lose my mind before Silvanus does. This is too weird.]
[I’ve heard of people being afraid of confined spaces, but I never knew I could be afraid of vast spaces like this too.]
[This is the real nightmare. It’s so dark that you can’t see anything, and there’s not even a single sound... Why isn’t Silvanus saying anything? At least say something to make it less scary...]
As if he could read the viewers’ comments, Silvanus lowered his gaze. His voice was gentle, yet his eyes held a strangely stubborn conviction.
"As a Priest of Erebus, His darkness will comfort me." He smiled. "As long as you also place your trust in Erebus, darkness will no longer be your enemy."
[...]
[Sounds like an Evil God to me.]
[You can tell right away this isn’t the kind of God people would call respectable.]
Silvanus’s brows furrowed slightly as he watched those comments scroll past.
But before he could say anything else, the comments before his eyes suddenly dissolved into countless distorted bands of chaotic colors. Like a broken television screen, they flickered for a moment before disappearing entirely.
Silvanus: "..."
The viewers were no less alarmed.
[What the hell was that? I just saw Silvanus frown, and then the screen went black!]
[Someone tell me he isn’t dead!]
[Idiot, if he were dead, his livestream room would’ve disappeared.]
[Could it be because we were badmouthing Erebus?]
[That has to be it! Silvanus said the darkness would comfort him. The darkness is protecting him, so when it sensed his dissatisfaction, we all got chat-banned! We can’t even see Silvanus anymore!]
[Is it really that powerful? Even the other Gods have never been able to interfere with Happy TV Network!]
[Putting aside Erebus’s obvious favoritism toward him, this ability alone is ridiculously overpowered!]
Silvanus, trapped within the darkness, had yet to figure out how to restore the livestream, and he certainly had not found a way out. Yet despite that, a powerful surge of faith points flowed into him, clear proof that the name of Erebus was beginning to spread once more.
Silvanus: "..."
Well, at least there was a silver lining amid the misfortune.
