"..." Xu Su was struck dumb, staring at him blankly. She couldn’t even bring herself to call him shameless.
"Still crying?" Shen Chen’s eyes were clouded with desire. He was using every ounce of his self-control just to keep himself in check, a sight that made Xu Su’s blood run cold.
She could truly feel how terrifying this man was.
"If you’re done crying, we can continue our talk."
Shen Chen carried her back to the bed. He ignored her protests and forcefully lifted her skirt, openly staring at her thighs, which were red and bruised. His gaze flickered for a long time before he finally let the fabric fall.
"What’s the deal with Si Xuan?"
Xu Su was utterly terrified of him now, so she explained everything from start to finish.
Shen Chen listened quietly as she told him about meeting someone from online. He didn’t offer any opinion, simply leaning in to slowly kiss her tear-reddened eyes. Xu Su was fuming but didn’t dare say a word, forcing herself to endure it.
She didn’t know that her obedient appearance was painfully endearing. Her compliance only served to stoke the desire in Shen Chen that had yet to fade, making him burn with thirst for her once more.
He stopped kissing her and gently stroked her long hair. "Since you already know how I feel about you, have you ever thought about what it would take for you to be with me?"
Xu Su opened her mouth but, afraid he’d fly into another rage, didn’t dare to say anything.
"That scared?" Shen Chen chuckled, his voice low and raspy. "Don’t be afraid to speak. I want the truth."
Xu Su steeled herself and said bluntly, "The person I love is Zhou Mochen."
The words didn’t surprise Shen Chen. He said calmly, "As I recall, it was one-sided on his part at the beginning, wasn’t it? If he could win you over with time, so can I. If he could snatch you away from that little punk, then I can snatch you away from him."
Xu Su was speechless.
"You don’t believe me?" Shen Chen murmured, caressing her face. "Or do you just not have any faith in me?"
"Zhou Mochen won’t let you get away with this," Xu Su said, grabbing his hand as it slid down from her face. "Shen Chen, you two have been like brothers for years. There’s no need to become bitter enemies over me."
"...You think I didn’t hesitate?" Shen Chen fell silent for a few seconds before a bitter smile touched his lips. "Xu Su, would you believe me if I said I never planned on letting you know how I felt?"
Xu Su nodded stiffly.

Shen Chen pulled her into a tight embrace, hissing through gritted teeth, "Because I can’t hold back anymore, Xu Su. Ever since you came to Beijing, I can’t control myself. I’m always hovering around you. It’s been absolute torture. The physical torment is nothing compared to what it does to my mind."
"Do you know what I was thinking that time I thought you were pregnant?"
"I wanted to kill someone!"
"I knew you two were together, but I just couldn’t accept it. I approached you with ulterior motives, all while being insanely jealous of him. You can’t possibly understand what that’s like."
"It was just too much to bear, so I’m not holding back anymore. I figured I had to at least tell you. Who knows, maybe if you saw how miserable I am, how much I love you, you’d actually take my feelings seriously?"

Before Xu Su could answer, he shook his head, answering himself. "Never mind. I won’t ask you. Today, you don’t get a say."
"Calm down! Shen Chen! You need to calm down!" Xu Su was on the verge of a breakdown. "How are you any different from those men at the construction site yesterday!"
"Don’t say that," Shen Chen paused and looked up, smiling at her.
"If you don’t consent, I promise I won’t go all the way."
