Chapter 110: THIRD POV.
Of course he knew a lot about the royal family of Leones. After all, he’d been transported into this exact novel world and had spent hours reading the details of the plot line back when it was just words on paper.
He knew about the hidden sickness, the secret betrayals, and the political wars that were about to tear the mainland apart.
But, of course, he had no intentions of telling them that since it would only do him more harm than good.
If he said he was from another world or that he knew the future because of a book, they wouldn’t believe him anyway.
They would just think he was either completely insane or using some kind of dark, forbidden magic, which would only make them even more terrified of him.
Jacob opened his mouth to speak, ready to clear up the misunderstanding with a calm explanation and put this annoying teenager in his place using simple logic, but before a single sound could leave his throat, the air around them changed completely.
"You dare raise your sword against my man?" Priscilla’s cold voice was suddenly heard.
The temperature on the deck didn’t just drop this time; it felt like it froze over instantly.
The playful, amused expression she had been wearing just a few seconds ago vanished completely, replaced by a dark, dangerous look that made her look like a true monster of the deep sea.
Her long white tail stopped its lazy moving and went completely straight, the fur on her back rising up.
Jacob shivered, a cold sweat breaking out across his neck. His eyes turned to face her when he felt a frightening aura slowly being emanated off her body.
It was that same suffocating pressure from before, the one that felt like an incoming tidal wave ready to crush everything in its path.
From the looks of it, She didn’t like people threatening her crew, and she especially didn’t like some weak, ungrateful man pointing a piece of sharp metal at the first mate she was beginning to cherish.
"Captain!" Jacob suddenly held her hand just as she was about to leap down from the balcony and tear the boy to pieces.
His fingers wrapped tightly around her large, fur-covered wrist, using a surprising amount of his own strength to keep her anchored to the spot.
Priscilla turned her head to look at him, her stern, murderous look vanishing into one of pure surprise.
Her golden eyes widened slightly as she looked down at his hand gripping her arm. She hadn’t expected him to touch her so suddenly, nor had she expected him to try and stop her from defending his honor.
"Please don’t forget what we’ve discussed," he whispered to her, his voice incredibly low so that only her sharp, furry ears could catch the sound. He kept his eyes locked with hers, pleading with her to calm down.
He couldn’t have her losing her temper now and frightening poor little Rebecca all over again.
They had spent all that effort saving the child from the cage and making sure she felt safe.
If Priscilla went wild right now and painted the deck with Flounder’s blood right in front of the little girl’s eyes, the princess would be traumatized for the rest of her life, and any chance of using her connections for a peaceful future would be completely destroyed.
Priscilla stared at his hand holding hers in absolute silence, not saying a single word for several long, tense seconds.
Yet one couldn’t tell exactly what was going through her mind as she looked from his calm face down to his gripping fingers. She wasn’t used to being held back, but there was something about Jacob’s steady voice that made her listen.
Feeling her dark aura slowly receding back into her body, the heavy pressure in the air finally lifting, Jacob let out a long sigh of relief from deep within his chest.
He let go of her hand slowly, making sure she wasn’t going to move, before turning back around to face the trembling group standing below the balcony.
"Listen... I have no idea what misconceptions might be going through your mind, but mine is pure and nothing more," Jacob said, his voice smooth and polite.
He spread his hands out wide in a show of good faith.
"Regarding how I know so much about your kingdom’s problems, you can simply call it my personal secret. I have my ways of knowing what goes on and about on the mainland, don’t underestimate a Seaman’s resourcefulness." he chuckled.
Of course that was a blatant lie. But the lot of them were to preoccupied to delve into it properly.
"But I can assure you all, I have no dealings with anyone of royal descent whatsoever. I know not of this Prince Astaris you speak of nor do i care."
" Moreover, I have absolutely no desire to become a bounty hunter for a kingdom I don’t even live in."
" Any man willing to hunt down a child is no man at all." He said the last part with a cold face.
Jacob then leaned forward slightly, his eyes narrowing as he directed his gaze straight at Flounder with the sword.
"If you still can’t trust us after we saved your lives and offered you our shelter, then you’re free to borrow one of our lifeboats right now, take a pair of oars, and find your way back to Leones yourself."
" The sea is very big, and I’m sure you’ll have a wonderful time rowing through the waves with that bleeding side of yours."
"Of course not, good sir! I’m sure it was merely a slip of the tongue... right, Flounder?" Rudwig said immediately, jumping into the conversation before the boy could ruin things again.
He grabbed Flounder’s arm with a tight, heavy grip, physically forcing the boy’s sword arm down until the metal point was facing the floorboards.
He was glaring at Flounder from the corner of his eyes, his expression full of a silent, furious warning that told the teenager to shut his mouth if he wanted to keep breathing.
