Chapter 72 Encountering the Royal Clan
Chapter 72 Encountering the Royal Clan
As these two seemingly cryptic exchanges ended, the door opened, and the female team leader walked out, followed by two other team members.
Eric exchanged a glance with the female captain, then led Leon and Elisa into the room, while Miguel and Remus were assigned to stand guard outside the door.
Inside the cabin, Celia was sitting at a desk with a thick stack of parchment on it. She seemed completely absorbed in it, oblivious to the guards changing shifts around her.
Li Ang stood guard to the side, but this guard duty was very boring. The thought of having to stand here several times made him feel annoyed. It would be better to go on patrol, at least that would be more interesting.
Time seemed to stretch out inside the cabin, with only the rustling of parchment turning and the soft breathing of a few people.
Li Ang stood in the designated position, his gaze routinely sweeping over the hatch and the ventilation openings that could be compromised.
After an unknown amount of time, Celia, behind her desk, seemed to finally pull herself out of her own world for the time being.
She exhaled softly, reached up and rubbed her temples, her golden eyes unconsciously lifting and sweeping aimlessly across the cabin.
When her gaze swept over Li Ang, who stood guard like a statue, she paused for a moment, then put down the parchment in her hand, leaned forward slightly, and began to scrutinize Li Ang without restraint.
Her gaze shifted from a slightly bewildered look at the beginning to an extremely focused scrutiny, and finally, it transformed into an almost burning curiosity and interest.
Just as Li Ang was feeling uncomfortable under her gaze and was about to ask a question, Celia suddenly stood up.
She moved gracefully around the desk and walked straight to Li Ang, so close that they could almost feel each other's breath.
Under the astonished gazes of Li Ang and Captain Eric beside him, she actually raised her hand, her slender, fair fingers carrying a hint of coolness, and gently touched Li Ang's cheek.
Her movements were so natural, as if she were touching an object, rather than a person, a man.
Her fingertips continued to slide down to her jaw, and the slide didn't stop.
Li Ang froze, abruptly taking a step back to avoid further contact with her.
Li Ang's brows were furrowed, and his tone carried a hint of helplessness:
"Celia the Wizard? What are you doing?"
Captain Eric immediately stepped forward, his eyes sharply fixed on Celia. Although she had a special status, this behavior was clearly overstepping his bounds.
However, seeing that the sorceress Celia didn't seem to intend to harm Leon, he refrained from saying anything harsh, and simply offered a stern reminder:
"Witch Celia, please have some self-respect."
Celia seemed completely unconcerned about Leon's avoidance and Eric's warnings.
She withdrew her hand, her fingertips gently twirling, as if savoring the sensation from just now.
She didn't look at Captain Eric; her golden eyes remained fixed on Li Ang, a sly glint in them, as if she had thought of something interesting.
Then she turned her head and glanced at Captain Eric, whose face was tense, and a very subtle smile appeared on her lips.
The rest of the guard duty was spent in this eerie and silent atmosphere. The sorceress Celia did not do anything out of line, but occasionally she would glance at Li Ang with an ambiguous look.
After finally enduring the shift change, the Eighth Squad almost immediately withdrew from the oppressive cabin.
When it was their turn to patrol again, it was nearly dusk.
The clouds were painted with magnificent colors by the setting sun, but the team members had no time to appreciate the beautiful scenery; they were simply patrolling vigilantly.
The patrol went smoothly, with only a few clueless night bats being easily dealt with.
By the time they finished their patrol and returned to the rest room, it was already late at night.
Everyone was a little tired, so they each found a corner to sit down and take the time to rest or meditate in order to restore their mental and physical strength.
Li Ang also closed his eyes, preparing to take a short nap.
However, just as Li Ang was dozing off, the law enforcement team badge on Captain Eric's chest suddenly began flashing rapidly, and a hurried male voice mixed with the sound of wind could be heard from it:
"Fourth Squad calling for backup. Repeat, Fourth Squad calling for backup. A massive swarm of flying dragons has been spotted one kilometer ahead of the flight path. The number is enormous, and damn it... there are even royal dragons among them. Requesting immediate backup!"
Upon hearing the cries for help, the atmosphere in the lounge instantly tensed up, and the drowsiness that everyone had accumulated vanished.
Captain Eric suddenly stood up:
"All team members, depart immediately to provide support. Elisa, notify the sixth squad and have them strengthen the guard on board the submarine in case of any accidents."
"Yes, Captain!" the group replied in unison, grabbing brooms and rushing out of the lounge without hesitation, heading straight for the deck.
The fourth squadron was in a precarious situation in the airspace ahead of the airship.
In the dim night sky, more than thirty flying dragons were densely packed and circling, roaring and spewing acid and poison, constantly attacking the defensive formation that the fourth squad was barely maintaining.
In the center of this group of dragons, a dragon far larger than its kind was coiled up.
It is nearly twice the size of a normal wyvern, and not only does it have the strong hind limbs of a normal wyvern, but it also has a pair of ferocious front claws.
This is a level 2 magical beast, a dragon king that naturally mutated from a dragon.
"Maintain formation, all units attack freely, prioritize eliminating regular dragons, Captain Martin, let's work together to hold off the King Dragon."
After Captain Eric gave the order, he was the first to mount his broom and soar into the sky. With a wave of his wand, a huge cyan lightsaber formed from highly compressed, violent air currents instantly condensed.
This is exactly his specialty, the level 2 wind spell [Storm Sword]!
Upon hearing this, Captain Martin instructed his team to maintain formation and attack freely. He then rode his broomstick away from the formation and joined Captain Eric in holding off the Flying Dragon King.
Around Captain Martin's wand, intense fire elements gathered wildly, and a fireball the size of a miniature sun hurtled towards the Dragon King. This was a level 2 fire spell, [Explosive Flame].
Li Ang and the others immediately joined the battle. These dragons were extremely fast and had very high defense.
Ordinary apprentice wizard-level law enforcement team members have difficulty hitting high-speed moving dragons with their level 1 spells. Even if they do hit, they cannot kill the dragon in one blow. It usually takes about two hits to kill a dragon.
Meanwhile, Li Ang seemed to transform into a mobile artillery platform, unleashing the [Wind Blade Technique] in succession. With each flash of the blue-green wind blade, a dragon howled as its wings were torn apart or its vital organs were slashed open, falling from the sky.
While the other team members had just shot down one dragon, Li Ang had already easily shot down five, which greatly relieved the pressure on the fourth squad. His combat prowess at this moment was even comparable to that of the two captains in the eyes of the other squad members.
