Chapter 35 The Lucky One
Chapter 35 The Lucky One
On the city wall, the cold wind was like a knife.
Victor's hands, gripping the molten longsword, were slightly sweaty, and his expression was solemn.
At the edge of the horizon, on the vast white snowfield, a horde of dark monsters was rushing towards them.
Not only ordinary dire wolves, but also dozens of enormous "lava trolls" engulfed in dark red demonic fire, and dozens of "copper beetles" covered in metallic armor.
"Lava troll? Copper beetle?"
Victor swallowed hard. "How could a monster that lives in a volcanic zone end up in a godforsaken place like the far north ice plains?"
"Because someone wants us dead."
Lorraine stood atop the tower, coldly observing the horde of monsters. "This isn't a wild beast tide; it's a force of monsters driven here."
However, it came at just the right time.
Isn't this just a walking [Fire Spirit Crystal Core] and [Red Copper Essence]?
The materials dropped by the monsters that came were exactly the same as the materials that the territory lacked.
Lorraine gave Lyra a deep look. This little girl's abilities were truly extraordinary; changing fate was probably an ability close to the rule level.
"Layla, move to the center position."
Lorraine pointed to the central spot of the city wall, where the view was best.
"Huh? Should I...attack?" Lyra stared at the terrifying behemoths, her legs trembling. "My tower isn't very powerful..."
"Who gave you permission to attack?"
Lorraine patted her on the shoulder. "Just stand there and pray to them."
"pray?"
"Yes, let's pray that they die in a cool pose and drop a lot of stuff."
Leila nodded as if she understood, and although she was scared, she obediently stood at the front.
"Anna, prepare to move."
Lorraine turned to the other side, "Don't conserve your magic, blast!"
"Yes, young master!"
A red light flashed in Anna's eyes, and many beams of lava instantly condensed on the lava watchtower.
boom!
Battle broke out.
Anna unleashed her lava beams wildly, creating spectacular fireworks amidst the monsters.
The thorny watchtower followed closely behind, its vines rising from the ground writhing like snakes to strangle the beast horde, while massive wooden spikes rained down on them.
The attack didn't seem to be very effective; these monsters appeared to be resistant to piercing and fire.
It takes multiple hits to successfully kill it.
Normally, killing these tough-skinned lava trolls and copper beetles would take quite a bit of effort.
But today, things are a bit strange.
A lava troll charging at the front was about to crash into the city wall when it suddenly slipped and its massive body rolled away like a ball, crushing a copper beetle to its side.
This is not over yet.
After the copper beetle was knocked over, its originally hard carapace actually hit a protruding ice rock.
Click.
Its carapace shattered, revealing its most vulnerable abdomen as it lay on its back.
puff!
A thorn thorn pierced through precisely, killing him instantly.
[Defeat the Tier 2 Copper Beetle to obtain: Copper Essence x5]
[Triggering the "Blessing of the Lady of Destiny" trait: Additional drop of 5 Red Copper Essence!]
Lorraine's lips curled into a wide smile as she looked at the notification that popped up on her retina.
Is this the true value of the Fate Witch?
Normally, you might not get any materials even after killing ten monsters, but now you got two sets from just one?
"continue!"
Lorraine's voice held a hint of fanaticism, "Leave those lava trolls here too!"
On the battlefield, bizarre scenes unfolded one after another.
The monsters seemed to be under a spell that made them less intelligent.
Some collided with each other, some tripped and fell on flat ground, and some even exploded their guns and injured themselves while releasing their skills.
Less than half an hour.
More than two hundred monsters turned into corpses before they could even touch a single brick of the city wall.
Victor's hands were shaking as he led his men to clean up the battlefield.
I wasn't tired, I was excited.
"Sir! We've struck it rich!"
He ran up the city wall carrying a pile of glowing red crystal cores and metal blocks, grinning from ear to ear.
"This is too weird! In the past, you'd be lucky to get one crystal core from ten of these magical beasts, but today, how come every single one of them is full of them?"
Lorraine took the heavy bag of materials.
Twelve Fire Spirit Crystal Cores and sixty portions of Red Copper Essence.
In addition, there were all sorts of miscellaneous materials.
Not only have all the materials needed for the Flame Altar been gathered, but there's also a surplus.
He turned his head and looked at Leila, who was huddled in the corner, trembling and afraid that she had messed up. He was in a good mood.
"Well done."
Lorraine walked over and, unusually, ruffled his messy hair. "I'll treat you to an extra chicken leg tonight."
As night fell, the wind and snow subsided slightly.
Inside the White Wolf Territory, however, a scene of bustling activity unfolded.
Victor and his men were processing the monster corpses, skinning and dismembering them; these were excellent supplies of food and materials.
Lyra was being pulled along by Olivia to study the mystical principles behind the monsters that could "fall flat on their faces."
Only Anna.
She squatted silently in the corner, wiping the crystal cores she had taken from the monsters with a rag.
The firelight illuminated her small face, but it couldn't brighten the darkness in her eyes.
"Anna?"
Victor passed by and, seeing her like this, asked curiously, "Why aren't you resting? You were the key player today, you must be exhausted?"
"I'm not tired..."
Anna shook her head, her voice soft, "I just... wiped these clean, the adults will need them."
Victor scratched his head, sensing that the girl was in a bad mood, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it, so he could only carry the wolf leg away.
Anna looked at the red crystal core in her hand, and tears suddenly welled up in her eyes.
She felt increasingly useless.
If it weren't for Lyra's luck, everyone would have had to fight a very long time in today's battle.
If it weren't for Olivia's thorny watchtowers controlling the situation, the monsters would have charged in long ago.
And what about yourself?
Aside from standing there throwing fireballs, it can't do anything else, like a turret that only consumes magic power.
The young master is becoming more and more capable, and the people around him are becoming more and more outstanding.
That elegant and intellectual Miss Olivia was so well-matched with Lord Lorraine in even her manner of speaking.
Lyra, who brings good luck, is Lord Lorraine's darling.
Only myself.
A lowly servant, a fool who can barely read a few words.
Is it... time to be abandoned?
"What are you thinking about? Tears are about to fall into the crystal core."
A familiar voice suddenly rang out overhead.
Anna was startled and frantically tried to wipe away her tears, but the more she wiped, the more tears she shed.
"Young...Young Master..."
She stood up, clutching the hem of her clothes helplessly. "I...I didn't cry...it was from the smoke..."
Lorraine looked at the cautious girl in front of her and sighed inwardly.
This girl's inferiority complex is practically ingrained in her bones.
Despite possessing the power of a second-tier witch, her mindset remains that of a little slave who could be sold at any moment.
"Come with me."
Lorraine didn't explain further, but simply reached out and grabbed her wrist.
Feeling the warmth of Lorraine's palm, Anna trembled and instinctively tried to pull her hand away.
After hesitating for a moment, she gripped Lorraine's hand even tighter.
"Don't move."
Lorraine gripped his hand tighter. "I'll take you somewhere."
He pulled Anna along, through the crowd, and headed straight for the newly cleared open space in the center of the territory.
This area faces those towering thorny watchtowers and is the core area of the entire territory.
Give me the crystal core.
Lorraine reached out her hand.
Anna obediently handed over the bag of gleaming crystal cores.
Lorraine took the bag and then pulled out the bag of red copper essence from his pocket.
Guided by the "Witch's Codex," all the materials transformed into streaks of light, hovering in mid-air.
"Look, Anna."
Lorraine turned her head and looked at her intently. "This is a witch-exclusive building specially prepared for you."
